The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association (ACBOA) has warned that prices of bakery goods, other than bread, would have to be increased if the prevailing high prices of goods continue.
ACBOA Chairman N.K. Jayawardana said that they have written to the President and Prime Minister about the issue.
“We have written to the President and Prime Minister and explained that we will have to increase the prices of bakery goods by Rs. 5, except for bread, if this trend of high prices of other goods such as eggs and margarine continue.”
He said that the prices of three of four essential items needed for making baked goods – namely sugar, margarine, and eggs – have increased.
“Only flour has not increased. Sugar, margarine, and especially egg prices have sky-rocketed.”
He said their association is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today (11) along with the All Island Poultry Association of Sri Lanka.
“We are to meet the Prime Minister at 9 a.m. on Friday (today). We hope for a fruitful outcome at the meeting.”
