Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa discussing the issue with Prison Reforms and Prisoners’ Rehabilitation State Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle and officials.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed Prison Reforms and Prisoners’ Rehabilitation State Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle to look into the legal provisions enabling the release of 46 children who are in prisons with their convicted mothers.

A report was called by the Prime Minister containing the details of these children after a national newspaper recently reported about them

The report was presented to the Premier by the State Minister during a meeting at Temple Tress yesterday.

The Prisoners’ Welfare Day Commemorative flag was also presented to the Prime Minister on the occasion. Funds gathered through the sale of the flag will be used for the Prisoners’ welfare.

The Premier instructed the State Minister to prepare a programme to use the drug addicts being rehabilitated for the working sites such as farms and factories.
