The Otter Aquatic Club Baudhaloka Mawatha in Colombo 07 would not be relocated but would be re developed as one of the best sports venues in Sri Lanka.

An official from the Urban Development Authority said that the club which has been ordered to vacate its current premises in Colombo-07 due to the failure to pay taxes would be refurbished and added with modern sports facilities. The UDA is planning to build a multi-storied sports and recreation complex on top of the current car park. “This would include a large banquet hall, hotel rooms and other entertainment options.”

“The management of Water’s Edge would requested to manage this complex bring additional revenue to the venue.”

One of the largest and most patronized clubs in Sri Lanka, Otters has more than 5,000 members and this venture would offer the members more facilities and would also help to increase membership.

Currently Otters has facilities for Swimming, Water-polo and Life Saving, tennis and other recreational and social activities.

Earlier last month Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretariat issued notice to Otter Aquatic Club to vacate the premises. It was said that the club set up 87 years ago has not paid nearly Rs 30 million, as taxes.
