New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s mother, Jeannette Belichick, died Monday of natural causes, club spokesman Stacey James confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday morning. She was 98.

Jeannette Belichick died in Annapolis, Maryland – where Bill was raised. Bill Belichick’s father, Steve, died in 2005 at 85.

Jeannette taught Spanish and French in the 1940s at Hiram College (Ohio), where she met Steve Belichick, the coach of the football, basketball and track teams. They got married in 1950, and Bill was born in 1952.

In 2015, Bill Belichick made a donation to Hiram College to honor his parents; the Jeannette Munn Belichick ’42 Endowed Fund was created to provide support to the school library.

The 68-year-old Belichick has won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots since becoming the head coach in 2000. New England started the 2020 season with a 21-11 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
