* Commercial banks should protect local industrialists – Prime Minister

Sept 16, Colombo: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says that commercial banks have a huge role to play in protecting local industrialists.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Shilpa Thursday’ exhibition which commenced today at the Diyatha Uyana premises in Battaramulla, the Prime Minister said that as a country, in order to make local handicrafts more popular, the people should use the local products.

The Prime Minister said that the present government has given priority to the protection of local industries.

Named Shilpa Thursday, the exhibition will be held every Thursday at the Battaramulla Diyatha Uyana premises.

The special handicrafts exhibition is organized by the State Ministry of Cane, Brass, Clay, Furniture and Rural Industries Promotion in collaboration with the National Crafts Council and the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation with the aim to create a market for local industrialists.

The exhibition is open today and tomorrow from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa and State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera were also present at the occasion.
